When we moved into our house my mom commented the first day that we definitely needed to buy new shower heads. I told her I wanted to try one of my Pinterest ideas first before going out and spending money. I tried THIS pin and it works like magic. Literally put vinegar in a bag, rubber band it on, wait a couple hours, take it off, wipe and you’re finished. I was seriously shocked, here is how mine turned out.
This month Stephanie picked our project and while it was a bit time consuming the results were adorable. We made a set of Old MacDonald puppets with the free patterns found here.. I used the patterns for the main body parts, the ears, and few of the other things I couldn’t very well free hand like the cow spots and feathers. I have a few tips for this if you want them e-mail me or leave a comment I don’t want to bore everyone with the details. I followed her ideas with a few minor touches of my own, here is how mine turned out.
This is my 3rd solo sewing project so I am very much a beginner, anyone can sew these. I think my favorite one is the horse and the one I would like to change is the sheep. The most important thing is Ellery thinks they are pretty awesome!
Friends, you will be proud of me, I decided it was time to start celebrating Valentine’s Day. It was the first time since meeting my husband that I really planned stuff. Thanks to Pinterest I was inspired to make a special meal and a garland for the table. I got him some gifts too, but not Pinterest related so I’ll just stay on topic.
I made Spinach Artichoke Pasta for dinner, delicious, it made way to much! So half the recipe, or you can reheat it, it tasted great the next day.
Dessert was a bust! It was not sweet at all and I will never make them again, but at least I tried. There was no recipe, only a picture, so I guessed, clearly I guessed wrong!
I used this idea for the table garland, but used red and pink card stock, took me only about 20 minutes to make and I used stuff I had lying around so I then didn’t feel bad throwing it away the next day!
I dressed Ellery in Valentine’s Day attire and I even wore Red and Pink, whoa!! My mom was in town and we had a family lunch and then a nice evening at home, my brother even came over and spent the night. I hope you felt loved!
Seeing as Valentine’s Day is right around the corner I decided to do a theme and talk about different relationships this week. And today I want to highlight blog friends and do a little giveaway because I just enjoy ya’ll so much! Now that I am a stay at home mama I enjoy blogging and comments so much more than I used to. It’s my outlet to the World and one of the ways I connect with people, especially from far away! If you are looking for some blogs to check out I have a list of my favorites at the bottom of this page. If you don’t see yourself on the list and would like to be, just let me known! Some blogs I read daily seem to be meant for just friends and family so i don’t want to invade privacy. I really want to get to know more bloggers, so if you have a blog and want me to follow you please let me know, I definitely want to expand my blog friends this year.
As you may have seen I have started sewing and I thoroughly enjoy it. I saw these awesome little finger puppets on Pinterest and decided to make Ellery a set and while I did that I made an extra set to give away. If you’d like to enter to win just leave a comment telling me which one is your favorite. If you’d like a second entry you can do so by promoting the giveaway by posting on your blog or sharing it on Facebook, twitter or any other social media and leave that info in the comments. So you get a total of two entries. The giveaway closes at 5PM on Friday.
This is kind of pinned it did it, but more just thoughts on Pinterest and some in case you didn’t know information.
I’ve been frustrated since our laptop broke because I couldn’t figure out how to pin stuff from websites using the iPad. Just in case I’m not the last person to figure this out I thought I’d share. You go to your Pinterest app, hit the little 3 line button in the top left corner and then there is an option to search the web or search the site. I freaked out when I found this. I’m kinda into making puppets for Ellery right now and so I wanted to find some finger puppet patterns so I searched Pinterest and found a ton. I am really looking forward to making a few soon. Also I’ve been wanting to pin a few things on my wants board and was able to use this function again. I’m guessing everyone knew this, but in case you didn’t, enjoy!
I added a new board that keeps track of things I’ve done and if it was successful or not. So if by chance you aren’t following it and would like to be here it is.
And while we are on the subject of Pinterest I’m going to express my frustration with it. Sometimes I feel like if I have to see one more washboard stomach or one more “10 pictures to take in the hospital” I am going to scream. I wish there was a way to filter this out. Most days I don’t even think about having a c-section. I had a really good one and the scar is extremely minimal so it’s not like I have a blaring reminder and I think I can officially say it stopped hurting about a month ago. Then I get on Pinterest to find some fun projects to do for my little sweetie and bam right in my face there are 5 reminders that I had a terrible birth experience and was so drugged and tired I don’t have any good pictures and honestly don’t remember most of it. The sheer number of pins on this subject makes me feel like it is super important to have hospital pictures when in reality it really isn’t. Rant over.
It was chilly ONE DAY in Austin this winter and I got to wear a scarf. I wanted to try something new so I looked at this pin and settled on the girly Windsor, I think it turned out kind of cute.
When you meet new people and they ask you what your hobbies are I always stand there with a dumb look on my face and then I stumble through a list of things I do. Um I blog? Is pinning on Pinterest a hobby? I play the piano, but that’s more my passion, not a casual hobby. So for Christmas I asked for a sewing machine. This feels like a full on hobby and I’m already having so much fun with it. Stephanie and I decided this year we’ll be doing a sewing project every month. Since we can’t be together at least we can do something together. That’s for another post and another series I’ll be calling Sewing with Steph. I’m waiting until she finishes hers and then I’ll post pictures. Andrew was in Albuquerque last night so I stayed up late and picked a project form my sewing board on Pinterest. I rummaged through my very small fabric stash and found everything I needed, except Velcro. I used the leftover fabric from Ellery’s nursery and got to work. I had no intention of finishing it last night, but I got on a roll. I grabbed the Velcro this mornings and finished during Elle’s mid morning nap.
I was inspired to make the Anywhere Chair.. The instructions were a little confusing for this beginner, but the pictures were very helpful. If you decide to do this project use common sense and don’t get too wrapped up in the instructions. Hers looks more professional, but I’m super satisfied how mine turned out. And I’m absolutely smitten with my model.
I have done several Pinterest things for Pinned it Did it Monday, but some are Christmas gifts and one is just not quite exactly up to posting perfection. So I decided I’d show you two things I did this week that cost me exactly zero dollars, my kind of project!
I’ve been meaning to do THIS for awhile and as the cards started rolling in I whipped one together with things I had lying around the house.
Here is what mine looked like, I like the original better, but I’m happy with how it came out.
This next idea solved the problem I’ve had for many months, but just couldn’t stand to spend money on the fancy acrylic trays. The original pin looks WAY FANCIER than what I did, but mine serves the purpose.
Lastly, not sure if I saw this on Pinterest, but somewhere I read that to help your baby sleep better you should put a heating pad on low in their crib 15 minutes before bedtime. I started doing this especially when I twilight feed her and it WORKS WONDERS!! She no longer is startled awake by the cold crib. Who wouldn’t want to slip into a preheated bed?
So I am hesitant to tell you this because I want to win it, but Emily is giving away what she made this week, so check it. You could always gift it to me, well really Elle, if you win!
I’m kind of cheating this week because I made these last year for Christmas, but they are fun and almost free so I decided to share.
Here is the original pin
Here is my picture:
I saved my jelly, salsa and spaghetti jars for the month of November and bought the cheapest yarn I could find. I am saving the jars again this year and plan to make green ones for next Christmas season.
The other thing I did was made this recipe for baked ziti.
It looked delicious. Unfortunately I had to make some alterations and it didn’t taste so delicious. We only eat red meat once a week due to our cholesterol, so I used turkey, and Ellery can’t handle me eating onions so I had to take that out. It wasn’t bad, it was just bland and I do not intend to make it again. Mine did look pretty delicious though!
I have so many projects pinned that I’m hoping to get around to, thankful for this series so I can challenge myself to try some.
I finally made something for Ellery. I saw this pin originally on Emily’s pinned it did it Monday and decided I would give it a whirl. Here is the original Pin:
I thought this was so cute and they have a great picture step by step tutorial on their website. I decided to tweak it just a little bit. I don’t like things to stick off of Ellery’s head. I decided to make the flower flat and I found a button in my extra buttons stash to finish out the center. I’m kind of in love with how it turned out! Now I’m looking for some black jersey to do with a sparkly button for the holidays. Here is my little model, and no she didn’t actually wear this together, I know this doesn’t match:
And that is all I did for pinned it did it Monday. It took me about 4X longer than it said it would, but it was one of my first sewing projects so that’s to be expected I guess.
On another note DST is horrid with a 3 month old. This morning she was hysterical at 5:20 so our day started at 5:20…thank goodness for naps!!
Only one pin done this week for Pinned it Did it Monday. Not sure what I’ve been doing this week that I didn’t get more done, but I’m up to my eyeballs in paperwork trying to organize our office space, so perhaps that’s what’s up. Here is the original pin, click on the picture to go to the link.
It’s almost comical how unlike the picture this one turned out. Here is where I think it failed. The shirt was WAY too thin and I didn’t have sharp enough scissors. I didn’t give up and I rummaged through my goodwill bag and found a jersey knit dress. Kind of like the material in a maxi dress and decided to try again with sewing scissors.
The original link has good instructions, you just want to make sure you have the right kind of shirt and I would suggest a dress if you have one because you get much more fabric to wrap. Have you tried any of the pins after seeing them on here? I’d love to know! Jill told me she did the make-up brushes and saw a huge difference.
